A Passion for Giving Back
Our Core Principle to generously give back to the communities where we live and work embodies the responsibility we have as human beings to help. Together with our employees, we help in big and small ways. We provide financial support in the form of scholarships, grants, charitable donations, and community outreach programs. And we harness the compassion our employees have for their customers and community and support them as they donate their time, talent, and resources.
Corvias Foundation inspires students, military families, and our employees to reach higher in a number of ways. We offer scholarships to students who attend our partner colleges and universities and to children of active-duty service members. Corvias Foundation also awards grants to military spouses. We hope the financial support we provide to the students and spouses empower them to pursue their dreams and make an impact in service to their communities. The support of our scholars extends beyond financial — we’re with them every step of the way through their four year journey and beyond. Once they have graduated, we link our scholars, employees, and partners through Corvias Connects, a program to support them in their educational goals. Corvias Foundation has a long tradition of volunteering and community engagement. We foster this tradition through our employees and our scholars to give back and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others through our popular Corvias Gives Back program. At Corvias, we pursue the kinds of partnerships and long-term relationships that substantially improve quality of life and bring about more dynamic and resilient communities. To help us be the best community partner, we team up with local organizations to further support our mission in the communities where we live and work. Whether we sponsor a Little League® team at one of our military installations, participate in an Earth Day clean up, or sponsor Save the Bay, we focus on creating more possibilities for our employees, partners, and those we serve.
Small Business Partnerships
We have a strong history of working with local businesses to improve the economies in the communities where we live and work. We have been hiring and mentoring local and Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) since our inception. In fact, 76 percent of our total spend on projects has gone to local businesses and MBEs. We have had the pleasure to hire and mentor dozens of small businesses and watch them grow and put more people to work. Our Mentor Protégé Program, which started at Fort Bragg, recently expanded to The Clean Water Partnership. This program develops an individualized process that supports the growth of local businesses. These small, local businesses in Prince George’s County are getting the knowledge they need to grow their companies and compete for years to come. Small business partnerships play a meaningful role in our success.
At Corvias, we believe we have a responsibility to be environmental stewards of our earth’s natural resources. After all, for our partnerships to create possibilities for five decades and beyond, we must play a role in our communities’ sustainability. Across our portfolio our environmental practices are as diverse as America. Our environmental partnerships include:
- Partnering with manufacturers who are committed to sustainability
- Using zero VOC paint in all of our buildings
- Building LEED® certifiable Community Centers
- Repurposing existing building slabs for new construction
- Installing bio-swales and rain gardens to naturally filter pollutants
And we are steadfast in our support of our partners’ environmental goals: In support of the Department of Defense Privatized Housing Solar Challenge, we recently began an initiative to install 100 Mega Watts of solar power across 12 locations throughout our military portfolio, which will reduce annual carbon emissions by 92K tons when complete. We look forward to taking advantage of more opportunities to advance environmental sustainability with more of our partners.
Our employees help us lead from the heart every day. They are passionate and always seeking ways to support their communities and develop professionally. We support them through a dynamic employee volunteering program, Corvias Gives Back, which also includes additional paid time off when they volunteer in their spare time. For our employees who financially support 501c3 organizations, our donation match program gives $2 for every $1 they donate. And Corvias Foundation awards a four-year college scholarship to a child of an employee each year. In support of our military partnerships we have taken the Veteran Hiring Pledge to actively hire veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. We value and recognize the leadership, training, character and discipline that our veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserve bring to our company and the American workforce.
Through Corvias Connects, we endeavor to offer our Corvias Foundation scholars the opportunity to intern for us at one of our locations with one of the many organizations with which we have a professional affiliation. Career development is an important part of our Employee Partnership program. Our employees, our customers, and Corvias all benefit when we give our employees opportunities for growth.
