MILITARY HOUSING IMPROVES AT FORT MEADE WITH CORVIAS INSTALLING NEW ROOFS

Corvias is working to improve housing at Fort Meade with significant measures underway including a new program to re-roof 110 historic homes located in the on-base Heritage Park neighborhood. Corvias is a partner to the U.S. military for the construction and management of on-base housing, and for providing service and amenities for residents.

“Historic homes in particular pose a great challenge for preserving and maintaining, and with this investment into the housing at Fort Meade, we are able to significantly improve the integrity of these 110 houses,” said John G. Picerne, Founder at Corvias. “This re-roofing project is one of many programs we are undertaking to improve military housing. We have added service technicians and resident service specialists, retrained our employees to provide excellent customer service and are providing multiple ways for residents to engage with our team, socially and to meet their specific service needs.”

Corvias is working with affected residents to schedule in the most preferred manner, with work expected to be completed this fall.

Under Corvias’ public private partnership with the Army a dedicated reserve account for deferred maintenance and capital improvements is used over the course of the partnership to upgrade and maintain homes. Corvias’ activity at Fort Meade includes management of 2,628 homes, with sixty percent of homes at Fort Meade older than 50 years or more.

“We have work to do, but we’re seeing progress,” added Picerne. “At Fort Meade during the last month, 95.9% of 630 total emergency work orders were completed within 24 hours, and 88.3% of the 2,569 routine work orders were completed within the benchmark of 10 days, and our resident satisfaction data reflects 3.99 out of 5.”

The Corvias-U.S. Army partnership at Fort Meade supports an average of 6,715 direct annual jobs, generating $5.7 billion in output and approximately $1.2 billion in wages during the lifetime of operations. These activities will also generate approximately $347 million in total tax revenues for the state of Maryland.

Enacted by Congress in 1996, the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) leverages private-sector capital, as well as housing industry expertise in construction and management, to reverse the military’s housing deficiency by expanding and modernizing housing, with predictable, stable long-term operating costs and performance. Corvias partnerships have built more than 9,500 new homes and renovated more than 16,400 homes across 13 military installations.
