Corvias, a partner to the U.S. military responsible for construction and management of housing for active duty service members, held an Adopt-a-Pet event for residents at Eielson Air Force Base raising about $700 in donations for local North Pole animal shelter, Loving Companions Animal Rescue, Inc (LCAR).

The community event took place on Saturday, April 27 and was attended by almost 100 residents and military families. For a small donation, residents could adopt a stuffed animal, the proceeds of which were donated to LCAR.  Once a resident selected their stuffed animal to adopt, they received a customized adoption certificate and took their new “pet” home.

“Generously giving back to the communities where we live and work is one of our Core Principles,” said Kim Zimmerman, operations director at Corvias. “Organizing events like Adopt-A-Pet at Eielson gave us an opportunity to engage with our residents while giving back to an organization that does so much good.”

Loving Companions, located in North Pole, AK 20 miles north of the Eielson AFB, is a non-profit shelter and sanctuary created to save and care for unwanted, abandoned animals in the State of Alaska. All staff of the shelter are volunteers who receive no pay, work many hours to help the community and promote a better life for animals and offer an alternative to killing pets.

“Animals are family and Corvias communities are pet friendly,” said Zimmerman. “We are so thankful to our residents and staff who participated in Adopt-A-Pet and helped make our donation to Loving Companions possible.”

The event was very well received by both attendees and staff. Corvias is planning to hold another day of adoption later in the year.
