Picerne Military Housing Announces Completion of School at Fort Riley

Newly constructed elementary school welcomes 675 students at opening

Fort Riley, Kan. (August 15, 2012) – Picerne Military Housing, a division of Corvias Group, a privately-owned, vertically-integrated real estate solutions group, today announced the completion and opening of the new LTG Richard J. Seitz Elementary School at Fort Riley. Originally projected to take 18 months to complete, the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, allowing students to start their 2012-2013 school year in the new school.

The on-base school, which will ease overcrowding at schools on the military installation, marks the completion of another project by Corvias Group outside of family housing. The LTG Richard J. Seitz Elementary School includes kindergarten through fifth grade students, whose parents are active-duty members of the military. The Department of Defense gave $30.9 million to fund the construction of the new school and the renovation of Ware Elementary School, which also reopened today.

“We are very excited to have completed this project for Fort Riley. It is another great example of the wide range of our capabilities to deliver innovative solutions to all of our clients, including the military said Corvias Group President and CEO, John Picerne. “This project aligns with our business strategy and also our mission to put families first and make a difference in the lives of our service members.”

The school is eligible to be a LEED Silver certified green energy building and will meet all of the anti-terrorism and force protection design components required by Fort Riley. Some of the LEED elements the school meets include: a parking lot with 25 percent fewer spots to encourage walking, biking and carpooling; using construction materials that have a minimum of ten percent recycled content; a white reflective roof to decrease air conditioning; and the ability to collect rain water in underground tanks for reuse. The school is also within walking distance for 80 percent of the student body.

“Using the Residential Communities Initiative authority to help build this school was a creative solution to the overcrowding issues that have been a concern to our families here at Fort Riley,” said Col. William Clark, Garrison Commander of Fort Riley. “The LTG Richard J. Seitz Elementary School will be enormously beneficial to the installation.”
