A Small Act of Kindness, Shared Widely
One Corvias team member’s quiet help for a military family sparked a wave of gratitude from others
When Corvias Resident Assistant and military spouse Tracy Wallace arrived at a Fort Riley home for a routine maintenance request, she found a new family in the middle of a difficult situation. The resident was balancing a life familiar to many military households. Her husband was deployed, she was working full time and their young autistic son was struggling to adjust to their new home.
“Crying nonstop,” the resident recalled about her son that day. “He was just not the happiest camper.”
Recognizing What Was Needed
Tracy immediately recognized what was happening. Before joining Corvias, Tracy worked as a special needs educator. She noticed the son was displaying self-soothing behavior common with those on the autism spectrum. After asking the resident if she could help, Tracy, drawing on her educational training and experience, sat with the son, calmly redirecting his attention and offering reassurance during a stressful moment.
“She offered guidance and gave out so much love,” the resident later wrote in a Facebook post about the experience. “I’m crying right now thinking about it.”
One Story Sparks Many More
Moved by the moment, the resident shared the story in the neighborhood Facebook group “Fort Riley Spouses and Families.” What happened revealed just how many people Tracy had quietly helped.

Residents began commenting on the post, sharing their own experiences with Tracy and the moments she had shown them the same care and compassion. All the while, Tracy had no idea.
“She is the best!” one person wrote. “She loved on me and my daughter when I went through my divorce.”
The post was shared on September 25, Tracy’s birthday, and later shared with her.
"I couldn’t ask for a better gift,” Tracy said.
More Than Housing – A Community
Moments like this reveal something deeper about the people who serve military housing communities at Corvias. Whether veterans, spouses, or another connection, many Corvias employees like Tracy share firsthand experience with military life, shaping how they support the communities they serve. It reflects the company’s broader mission– ensuring military families have more than just a place to live, but a community where they feel understood and supported.
“I just wanted to make sure the family was taken care of,” Tracy said. “Because at the end of the day that’s why we’re here.”
