Staying Ready: How the Corvias Team Prepares for Extreme Weather

Corvias’ emergency preparedness teams have moved from planning to execution as Winter Storm Fern barrels across the U.S. The massive storm could be among the worst in years, with multiple Corvias-managed Army housing communities anticipating extended periods of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across a wide geographic area.

From maintenance technicians to service center coordinators and resident associates, Corvias is fully engaged in supporting residents:

  • Active forecast monitoring at Fort Sill, OK, Fort Riley, KS, Fort Meade, MD, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and Fort Bragg, NC, the Army’s largest installation and home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces.
  • Coordinated response planning with garrison and installation partners to align response strategies and anticipated needs.
  • Staffing readiness, with plans in place to support timely response to work orders throughout the event.
  • Proactive resident communications, including severe weather alerts, safety guidance, and emergency contact information.
  • Infrastructure preparedness, with snow removal resources and extraction and drying equipment staged for rapid deployment.

Extreme weather preps are essential to any community, but even more so for defense communities that prioritize mission readiness and military family resilience.

“Our property management teams consistently train and plan because emergencies don’t wait,” said Regional Vice President of Facilities Matt Buckley. Whether it’s a deep freeze or a hurricane, we’re committed to staying ready so families can feel confident that their homes and communities are protected.”

Buckley noted maintenance teams have also completed seasonal preparations such as inspecting HVAC systems, insulating vulnerable pipes, and staging materials like de-icer, sand, and emergency repair supplies.

Preparing for the Next Storm

While winter weather is the immediate focus, Corvias applies the same disciplined planning to other extreme weather threats, including hurricanes.

Ahead of hurricane season, for example, teams conduct annual storm-readiness planning across communities – reviewing drainage systems, inspecting roofs, trimming hazardous tree limbs, and confirming equipment and supply readiness. When storms threaten, teams coordinate closely with the Army installation partners to support resident preparation and accelerate recovery efforts.

After Tropical Storm Debby in 2024 caused damage at Fort Bragg, NC., Garrison Commander COL Chad Mixon commented, “We are grateful for the fantastic response by our partners. They displayed a high level of preparedness, professionalism and absolute care for the soldiers and families who live on this installation.”

Ready to Serve

Most importantly, preparedness allows Corvias to serve with confidence, compassion and consistency – so military families can stay focused on the mission knowing their homes and communities are supported through all seasons.
