When a Soldier Needed Support, a Team Stepped In

Fort Sill officials praise ‘quick actions’ from Corvias that put the soldier first

When a notice came across Rebekah Mashburn’s desk delaying a soldier’s walk-through housing appointment, she sensed something unusual.

Corvias’ Rebekah Mashburn found a way forward when a soldier faced a sudden setback.

The service member had already rescheduled once – and when Rebekah learned why, she reached out.

“I called her directly because I found out she was in the hospital,” said Rebekah, a Corvias Resident Associate at Fort Sill, OK. “She told me, I’m not going to make the appointment. I didn’t ask for details. I just knew I didn’t want her to lose the house.”

Missing a move-in appointment at Fort Sill can mean losing your waitlist position and waiting months in a hotel or temporary housing. “I couldn’t imagine going through that,” Rebekah said.

A Strong Partnership Solves an Unusual Problem

Soon after, the soldier’s chain of command contacted Rebekah. They didn’t want her to lose the home either. Together, they found a solution: the chain of command would complete the walk-through on her behalf.

“This was the first time I’d coordinated a move-in with the chain of command,” Rebekah said. “On the phone, it was a Colonel, and in person, I met with, I believe, a Major.”

During the walkthrough, leadership connected with the soldier via video call so she could participate virtually. “We went room by room and answered her questions,” Rebekah said.

Within two days, the walkthrough was done, the lease signed remotely, and the home was secured.

A Home Ready for Recovery

Corvias Cares When the service member and her spouse arrived later, Rebekah finally met them. “They were just so happy,” she  said. “They told me the house was great and thanked us. I told them, "I’m just happy to get you into your home!”

Fort Sill Resident Advocate Housing Manager, Jennifer D. Benson said, “I appreciate the teamwork between our  housing team and Corvias in supporting this soldier and her family during a challenging time. Their quick actions  helped ease stress and ensure that the family had a home ready when they needed it most. This partnership truly reflects our commitment to taking care of our military families.”

The solution came from Corvias and its Army partners responding in a way that reflects the Army’s People First philosophy.

But for Rebekah, it was simple. “To me, it was just another day,” she said. “I stayed focused on the end goal and took it one step at a time.”
